4 Ways Having A Social Media Marketing Plan Can Save Your Efforts From Failing

social media marketingThe social media marketing train is still moving as fast as ever. When Facebook and Twitter took off, there was quite a bit of speculation over whether or not the hype surrounding businesses using social media for marketing was going to hold strong. Years later, it’s easy to see that businesses are not only using social media for marketing more than ever, but there are also more social media platforms to market on. Pinterest anyone?

The unfortunate side to social media marketing is that a lot of business’s don’t see results. One of the main reasons for a lack of results is due to simply not having a plan in place. When a business has a social media marketing plan, they have solid ground to begin from. Of course your plan can change as you find out what works and what doesn’t work, but that’s just common business sense.

To make the most of your social media marketing, a plan should be put into place. Here are 4 ways having a social media marketing plan can save your efforts from failing:

1. It Will Help You Keep Track Of Your Strategy

As we mentioned, having a good plan in place is simple business common sense. If you don’t have a social media marketing plan in place, you won’t be able to effectively keep track of the strategy or strategies that you’re using. How are you going to know what’s working if you don’t know exactly what’s being done? A social media marketing plan can outline what actions are taking place. Then, after your campaign is in full swing, you can back through your plan and pinpoint what’s working and what’s not.

2. It Will Prevent You From Doing Too Much

Yes, when it comes to social media, you really can be doing too much. Some social media platforms just aren’t effective depending on the type of business that you have, the way you use social media to market and your target audience. It doesn’t make any sense to devote a bunch of time to platforms that aren’t getting you the results that you want or need. When you have a social media marketing plan, you can plan out which platforms you’re going to use and how you’re going to use them. This will keep you from becoming overwhelmed by trying to use too many platforms at once.

3. If You Outsource Your Social Media Marketing…

Do you outsource your social media or do you have one of your employees handle it for you? If so, you need to give that person a plan to go off of. If the person handling your social media doesn’t have a plan, they are going to do whatever it is that they feel best. Sometimes this turns out good but other times, it can cause you to lose complete control over how your business is portrayed on social media.

4. It Will Save You Time

Finally, it may seem like a waste of time to write up a plan but in the long run, a social media marketing plan can save you time. You’re going to know what you need to do, when you need to it, what platforms to do it on and as we mentioned, you can more easily keep track of the success of your campaigns. Another thing to take into consideration is that when a lot of businesses start off their social media campaigns, the campaigns are small and then grow over time. Once you reach a point where your efforts are paying off, you’re going to need to quickly update social media and manage it. This will be easier to do with a good plan in place.
