If you’re ready to get into email marketing and start building a list of eager people who are interested in what your business has to offer, you’re certain to have a lot of questions. One of the first questions that you’re going to have is what email marketing service should you use?
What email marketing service you should use is going to depend on several factors. How much you can afford to spend on an email service, the different options that you want to have and how big of a list you plan on obtaining are all going to influence your decision. To help you out, we’ve listed some of the most popular email services out there, along with details on each so that you can come to an easy decision.
1. Aweber
Aweber is one of the most popular email marketing services out there. The company has been around since 1998, making it one of the most trusted and regarded email marketing services on the web. With Aweber you get email newsletters, newsletter templates, integration with Facebook and Twitter, sign up forms, sign up templates, split testing, autoresponders, HTML templates and email analytics just to name a few. There isn’t anything major that Aweber lacks for the serious email marketer.
The price of Aweber is going to vary depending on your needs. You can sign up for a simple dollar and that includes up to 500 email addresses and a money back guarantee. The plan does change to $19 a month after the first month and the only major flaw is the limit on the email addresses. This would be a nice plan to start with if you’re beginning in email marketing and you’re just starting to build your list; once you get over 500 emails subscribers though, you’ll have to upgrade. The upgrade cost varies as well, but you’re looking at an additional $10 per month if your list is between 501-2500 people and it goes up from there.
2. Constant Contact
Constant Contact is another good solution and they also have a trial period that’s free. You get full features during the trial period, but you’re limited more than Aweber with the number of email subscribers being at 100. Once again, this is not a huge deal because unless you already have a big list or your list grows extremely fast, 100 subscribers is a decent limit for a month or two. Pricing from there starts at $15, but they require that you fill out a form before they give you any more information.
The features are abundant with Constant Contact. You get free phone support to help you with the process, easy editing, no need of knowing HTML, email templates, social media integration and tools to help you develop your email list. Like Aweber, you also get tools to track your progress as well.
3. Vertical Response
Vertical Response has a pricing structure that’s a little different than other services. Rather than pay a set amount per month, you’re charged by how many people are on your email list. For example, if you have a list of up to 25,000 people, you’re paying 1.2 cents, which equals out to be $300 per month for the full 25,000. Of course this fee is on the high side compared to other email marketing services. Luckily, they do also have a pay monthly flat fee of $150 for 25,000 email addresses, so the pay per email plan wouldn’t make much sense if you have a huge list.
With Vertical Response, you get free marketing guides which can be helpful if you’re new to the business, videos on how to do just about anything that you’d need to do, 7 day a week support, social media integration and a 30 day free trial. This service has also been around quite some trust and is considered a trusted source for email marketing needs.
4. Mail Chimp
No room for email marketing in your budget at all? Mail Chimp has a plan where you can market to up to 2,000 email addresses completely free of charge and you don’t even need to provide a credit card or sign a contract. You get social features, designer templates, commenting capabilities, Facebook integration, split testing, Google Analytics, RSS to email and much more.
With so many options out there feature and budget wise, there’s really no reason to not start email marketing.

Great post. I haven’t heard of Constant Contact and Vertical response before, but I will have to check them out. I hear great things about Aweber, it was mentioned in a class I was taking. A buddy blogger of mine uses mailchimp and really likes it. Thanks for sharing
