Internet Marketing Assets: Your Keywords

Internet marketing asset keywordsFrom time to time, you’ve probably noticed that we often talk about one of most important assets that an Internet marketer has: Your website. Without your website, there wouldn’t be a gateway where you could connect with potential buyers, sell or market your products and be found in the search engines. But having a website doesn’t make you a successful Internet marketer and it doesn’t mean that your website is going to be easily found in the search engines. You could have the best products or services in the world, but if your website is getting buried in the search results, then few people will ever know about them.

Another very valuable asset to any Internet marketing campaign is the keywords that you use on your website. The keywords which are contained within your website’s content is what makes connecting the dots possible between your website and search engine results. If you have good keywords that people are searching for and you’ve managed to beat out the competition using the same keywords, then your website should be listed higher up in the results. But how do you choose good keywords and phrases? That’s one of the biggest challenges that people face, but it’s a challenge that shouldn’t be ignored since the keywords you use on your website and in your Internet marketing campaigns are either your best friend or your worst enemy.

Let’s take a quick look at your Internet marketing assets (specifically your keywords) and how you can go about figuring out which ones are right for your website and your niche that you’re marketing.

Use the Google Wonder Wheel

Google’s Wonder Wheel is a very powerful tool that few people use. In order to use this tool, go to Google search and type in a keyword or phrase that you’re interested in using on your website. Then on the left hand side of the screen, scroll down and click on “wonder wheel”. You’re going to see the word or words that you typed come up in a circle, with spokes that point to other words. Once you’re at this section, click on one of the other words or phrases that one of the spokes point to and keep going as far as you wish.

For example, if you search for “Internet marketing”, the phrase “Internet marketing blog” comes up attached to one of the spokes. From there, you can go a long way in researching other related terms, such as:

Once you start using this tool, you can very easily see how it can give you keyword ideas. Now you don’t have to take the literal keywords that you’re finding, but it can definitely help give you ideas and starting points.

WordTracker Free Keyword Suggestion Tool

WordTracker is a very powerful keyword tool but many stay away from it because the premium version is $379/year but they do have a free trial version as well. This tool is superb for finding long tail key phrases and it tracks performance over time.

Pen and Paper

It may sound silly but just simply sitting down with a pen and paper can help you gather keyword ideas. These aren’t ideas that you’d put to use without doing more research first since there’s no way to tell how they’d perform, but it’s a great option for brainstorming.

The Internet Time Machine

The trends analytics software that we offer here at the Internet Time Machine has powerful research tools when it comes to keywords. See what’s being searched for and check out the supply and demand for keywords and phrases that you’re interested in. Take your research even further by being provided SEO scores that’ll help you determine how well the words or phrases can be optimized or see if there’s already too much competition out there.

Don’t put this marketing asset in the backseat. Keywords are a vital and essential part to your online marketing business and being found in the search engines.
