If you’re a small business owner, then you’ve probably at least thought about the benefits of marketing online. The issue for most small business owners is that not everyone can afford to have an online marketing budget or a marketing budget at all. Spending money to market to people around the world may also not make sense if a company doesn’t want to do business outside of their local area or they don’t have the means to.
Even if online marketing is not within your budget, there are still ways that small businesses can go about things. Here are 5 ideas for small businesses with no online marketing budgets:
1. Social Media
Social media is one of the easiest and most effective ways to bring online attention to your business. Of course Twitter and Facebook are free and they both allow you to choose who you connect with, so if you’re only marketing to local people, you can keep it that way.
2. Google Local
You can sign up for a Google Places account and list your local business. When Internet users search for local products and services in Google, your business will be listed. If there aren’t too many other businesses like yours listed in Google Local Business, then you may even appear near the top but it is best to have a website to go along with your listing (see number 5).
3. Guest Posting
If you have knowledge about the industry that your business is in (as every business owner should), then you can try offering some insight by guest posting on another person’s or company’s blog.
4. Business Review Websites
Consumers often turn to websites like Yelp in order to find out if a business in their local area is good or not. Consumers often review customer service that they were provided, product selections and other aspects of businesses around their local area.
5. Blogging
If you have no online marketing budget but you still need a website, then consider setting up a blog through WordPress.com. You don’t get as many options as you would by hosting your own WordPress website, but it’s free and it still has the potential to reach people so that they learn more about your business and what you have to offer.
All of the above ideas are free to use in order to help your business market online. There are many more ideas for small business owners with no online marketing budgets, but the 5 above will help get you started in reaching people through online methods.
