Is It Okay to Brag About Your Internet Marketing Success?

marketing successIf you’re an Internet marketer that has done quite well for yourself, you may be wondering if it is okay to brag about your Internet marketing success? To some, it may sound a little tacky but it’s actually quite a common practice in the business. The line of thinking is that if a marketer can show his or her followers that they have achieved success, then he or she will be a respected memory of the online marketing community. In other words, people want to learn from the best and if an Internet marketer can show their followers how successful they have been, then it’s a way of showing how good they are at what they do.

The thing you have to worry about if you decide to brag about your Internet marketing success is how the general public is going to receive what you say. If done correctly, it could give you the credit that you want and deserve, but if the wrong strategy is taken with it than it could hurt more than it could help.

No one likes a show off but there is that slight chance that Internet users may see your brag as showing off. In order for your Internet marketing success story to be received well by the general public, it can be helpful to follow these guidelines:

  1. The number one rule is that you should be able to back up your claims when questioned. While it may seem like an easy thing to do, it’s more difficult than you may think. For example, say you claim that your income reached 6 figures in your first year of being an Internet marketer. Would you want to publically show your bank statements to prove that? This is where respect can be lost because people want to see proof and if you can’t provide it (even for logical reasons), you could be walking that fine line. Stick to things that you feel comfortable with and that you’ll have an easy time proving without divulging too much private information. You do of course always have the option of full disclosure and you can lay everything out on the table if you’d like.
  2. Be careful with how you word things when you do brag about your success. You don’t want to make people feel like they are being talked down to or that you come off acting better than everyone else. It’s one thing to share your success, it’s another thing to degrade your followers. You earned it and you have every right to talk about it but it may help if you do it from the perspective that you’re sharing it because you want to help other people.
  3. Don’t brag spam everyone you know multiple times. You make a blog post or a website page about your success in Internet marketing and then you may even Tweet or Facebook those links to share the information. Those things are fine, but don’t Facebook and Tweet the same link about your success over and over again.

In the end, it’s perfectly fine to share your success story as long as you do it in a manner that isn’t offensive to those who are going to be seeing it. Remember that those people are your followers or potential buyers of what you’re marketing.
