The Parts

Before we talk about how touch-faucets work, it is essential that we understand the various components or parts of the system. It will help us understand the touch faucets in more effective ways.

  1. Sensor

A touch faucet comes with an integrated sensor which is connected to the handle of the spout. As the hand comes close to the faucet, the sensor detects it. And it stops working as your hand moves away. These sensors are also called presence sensors, not the motion sensors.

  1. Valve

The valve in touch faucets works with the sensors. Sensors send orders and it receives them. It is like rubber and controls the flow of water. When it opens, the water flows whereas when you remove hand from the sensor, it stops the water flow.

  1. Power Source

The faucets do need the power to work. Batteries are used in the faucets which provide power. When the battery is low, the faucet may not work as the sensors and other parts don’t receive commands.

  1. Spout

Spout holds all the parts of the touch faucet together. They come in different sizes and material. The cheapest ones are made of zinc whereas the spouts of good quality are manufactured using brass or copper. Nickel faucets are considered to be the best in terms of durability.

How Does the Technology Work?

The touch faucets use capacitive technology. The technology used in touch faucets works just like the touch of smartphones. It is no different than that. As a person touches the faucet, the sensor receives the command. It should be noted the first touch means turn on. So it will start working. If you have to stop it, you need to touch it again and the sensor will stop it.

However, in some of the best kitchen faucets, the touch sensors don’t work like this. You will not need to touch it again to stop the water flow. Rather, the sensors will detect when you remove your hand and the orders to stop water flow will be sent. The material used in faucets are highly sensitive so you can touch any part of the handle to stop the water.

The experts recommend taking care while you install the faucets. Make sure they are installed the right way. No metal contact should come between the sensor and the touch otherwise they will not respond to the touches.

Advantages of Touch Faucets

There are a number of advantages to touch faucets. The first one is they allow the users to turn on or off the faucet with their messy hands. Working in a kitchen leaves your hand with a lot of mess so you will have to clean to turn on a normal faucet. But the touch feature spares you and saves time as well.

Touch faucets are really quick. You can save a lot of time. You may need to turn on and off the faucet multiple times while working in the kitchen. So in such cases, the touch faucet is the ideal choice. You will not have to clean the hands again and again.
